Position Description:
 
Database Administrator to design, implement and support SQL Server databases. Must have extensive experience in administrating SQL Server 2005 and 2000 databases. Microsoft certification - MCITP (Database Administrator) is a strong plus. Experience with of agile process is a plus. This position offers an excellent opportunity for technical and professional growth, as we are currently redesigning and redeveloping our proprietary software in a C# / ASP.NET environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Implementation and support of SQL Server Database Systems, Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services on enterprise and dedicated Windows 2003 servers
  • Proactively monitor health of database servers installed at client sites and take appropriate preventative actions. Develop tools and reports to effectively monitor the server health if necessary
  • Performs problem resolution and root cause analysis along with recommending and implementing preventive techniques
  • Design, install, tune, maintain and monitor SQL Server databases, products and services; including, but not limited to, storage management, DB performance tuning, DB software debugging, backup and recovery, and change/configuration maintenance
  • Work closely with development team and implementation team to design and implement SQL Server databases, associated support tools and processes in support of complex business application development and deployment. Scope includes company's OLTP applications and OLAP business intelligence tools
  • Review and approve data model designs developed by application developers. Maintain data models and keep them up to date
  • Provides technical consulting in identifying, implementing and supporting new SQL Server database function
  • Ensure standardization of systems implementation, support techniques, and adherence to formal processes, change control, best practices, and total quality practices in all activities
  • Evaluate new database technologies such as SQL Server 2008 and facilitate adoption decisions
    Develop in-depth knowledge of business processes facilitated by company's software products
    Develop in-depth knowledge of company's software products
    Provide regular updates on database performance to Product Management and other stakeholders
    Coach and mentor the development, implementation and support team members on best practices for database technologies

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience: 

  • 10+ years of software industry experience
  • 5+ years of experience in managing SQL Server installations in various settings such as clustered, non clustered, using SAN, etc. is a must have.
  • Expert in managing SQL Databases on multiple servers, housing large amounts of data, large number of users, ETL processes (DTS, Stored Procedures, User Defined Functions, SQL Agent and Transact SQL) in an OLTP/Data Warehousing environments, performance tuning, analysis, problem research/definition/resolution.
  • Should have at least 2+ years of experience in SQL Server 2005 environment
  • 3+ years of experience in SQL Server 2000 environment
  • 3+ years of experience in data modeling and data architecture
  • 2+ years of experience in managing a large scale data warehouse and expert knowledge of MDX and star schema designs

Desired Skills, Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Microsoft certification - MCITP (Database Administrator) is a strong plus.
  • Experience with of agile process is a plus.
  • Experience in XP/SCRUM team is strongly preferred
