Project Description:

System-level Linux engineer to help design, architect, build, and integrate Linux tools across a large user base. The ideal candidate must be comfortable and have demonstrated experience in the following areas:

  • Linux platform
  • System level security tools (CA, Tivoli, Kerberos, etc)
  • Open system architecture (to include experience increasing scalability – in this case from 3k to ~10k users)
  • Integrating open source and commercial tools, including utilizing 3rd party vendors for specific functions and tools
  • Linux upgrades and migrations
  • Performance tuning and optimization
  • Also want someone who can code – preferred languages (in order): C, shell scripting, Perl, PHP, XML
  • Large, multi-tier architecture environments 1k+ users

 Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:  

  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Math, or equivalent education/experience.
  • 9+ years programming experience required. Expert level of programming, design, and/or analysis required. Systems or Communication programming experience helpful.
  • Proficiency in C programming and Linux shell scripting required.
  • Understanding of and ability to navigate the Linux operating system required. Working knowledge of open systems architectures is necessary, including a demonstrated ability to integrate open source and commercial tools into an existing system architecture.
  • Proficiency in XML, PHP and PERL a plus. PICK programming knowledge a plus but not required.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and experience with PostgreSQL a plus.
  • Knowledge of security tools, upgrade and migration mechanisms and performance tuning and optimization is desirable.
  • Significant analysis and design experience as well as proven solution implementation is required. Must have experience with large (1K to 10K users) multi-tier, server-based development projects.
  • Training and in-depth experience with formal software development methodologies and processes required.
  • Ability to provide leadership and communicate effectively verbally and through written documentation, meetings and presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively as a team leader and ability to resolve issues between team members.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work under tight deadlines, often with time and resource constraints.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems, demonstrate problem solving and resourcefulness in obtaining information.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and multiple tasks while coordinating several team members' activities.

Desired Skills, Knowledge and Experience:  

  • Virtualization (VMware, Zen, Virtual Server, etc)
  • Data modeling, preferably in a non-relational db environment (client uses multi-value databases)
  • Active Directory
