Position Description:

Developer to help support the Carrier Management System. This is a mission critical web based application that that must be available 24x7 and has direct impact on the companys linehaul cost, efficiency, and profitability.

This position works closely with Directors of Linehaul and Carrier Relations and with Load Planners to solve problems and support operational changes. Team members work in a self-directed high performance team environment to achieve business goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn the Carrier Management System application and provide day to day support and development of new functionality.
  • Learn the business activities supported by the Carrier Management System.
  • Perform support and development activities for other applications assigned to the SCMR team.
  • Off-hours work will be required as business demands dictate.
  • Respond to pager/phone calls for off-hours to fix application problems.
  • Some travel may be required. (10%)

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Bachelors degree in CS, MIS, or technical area or the equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 5+ years experience in IT systems design and development preferably in medium to large corporate environments required.
  • 3+ years experience with Microsoft toolset, ASP, VBScript, and SQL Server, based applications required.
  • Must be able to work off-hours as business demands dictate
    Must be able to respond to pager/phone calls during off-hours to fix application problems.
  • 3+ years experience with Java toolset or other object oriented technologies desired.
  • Experience in logistics and/or transportation management and business analysis is desired.
  • System knowledge and skills may include USE CASES, OOAD, Design Patterns, Relational Database design, Open Source Frameworks, User Interface Principles, N-Tier architectures, J2SE, J2EE, HTTP, OOP, Java Best Practices, Java toolset, Object Modeling toolset, and SQL, DB2, Oracle, and the suite of Microsoft applications.
  • Well developed written and verbal communication skills in customer settings and with internal management. Well developed active listening, facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of basic business principles and transportation management.
  • Solid knowledge of IT software development life cycle methodologies and processes.
  • Solid knowledge of client server protocols, web, and other object oriented technologies.
  • Well developed time management and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical capabilities including complex technical problem solving. Exposure to managing customer expectations.
  • Ability to learn and understand functionality of multiple transportation-related systems.
  • Ability to establish solid business relationships and work effectively with senior business and client contacts.
  • Ability to work and participate effectively in a dynamic self directed team environment.
  • Ability to mentor and guide others in technical skills.
  • Ability to communicate business needs to technical people and to communicate and simplify complex technical information for non-technical people.
  • Ability to perform 24/7 on-call duties on a rotational basis.
