Position Description:
 
Responsible for capturing business demand and translating that demand into computer utilization models for planning, budgeting, and prioritizing project asset needs to ensure consistent delivery of computing services to meet business needs.
Maintain performance data collector software, performance database, and reporting software. Develop performance tuning architecture to monitor, analyze, tune, measure, and report on service utilization for selected platforms.
Work with application teams to implement any tuning initiatives and benchmark application performance prior to production rollout.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Manage performance measurement data and maintain performance database.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on performance data with respect to established system thresholds.
  • Identify tuning opportunities and provide recommendations.
  • Work with appropriate personnel to implement any tuning initiatives.
  • Participate and provide performance data for problem solving.
  • Trend and forecast resources requirements to meet normal growth and business plans.
  • Meet with key internal technology representatives and develop strategy to obtain business metrics, growth requirements, and SLA requirements related to capacity planning.
  • Establish application profiles, baselines and evaluation periods for use of services.
  • Conduct regular capacity planning and performance tuning meetings.
  • Publish capacity and performance management reports.
  • Participate in application performance benchmark exercise.
  • Provide inputs to the budget cycles.
  • Participate in team collaboration and strategic planning efforts.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in a technically related field.
  • 5+ years technical experience with mainframe and mid-range platforms, capacity/performance model development, performance measurement, application performance tuning, and system administration.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of at least two major systems (MVS, UNIX, Windows, CICS, DB2, Web Sphere, Oracle, Informix, Network, Storage Area Networking, or Application development).
  • Experience with analytic analysis, simulation, or data modeling.
  • Skills in coding, testing, and problem solving and analysis desired.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. MXG, SAS, C, Perl, HTML, PHP, SQL, COBOL, ASSEMBLER, EZTRIEVE, and CA/Gen).
  • Knowledge of Capacity, Performance, and monitoring tools (e.g. BMC Performance Assurance, Omegamon, Vantage, and Openview, Big Brother,Introsocope, Quest Spotlight, and SAS/ITRM).
  • Ability to understand complex system and application architecture.
  • Ability to provide advanced technical training and consulting to IT.
  • Rapidly learn new technologies and recommend / implement those determined to be beneficial to the company.
  • Basic project management skills; time management skills; multi-task and prioritize work loads; demonstrated analytical capabilities; recognize and adapt to budget and timeline constraints; build consensus with team members and resolve conflicts amiably.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; work effectively in dynamic environment with a broad range of end-user configurations; participate in a team environment and build strong working relationships.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written); communicate effectively with support peers, end users, and all levels of corporate management; effectively communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience; manage vendor communication; ability to create and host presentations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software required.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to teammates
